Banora Point Acupuncture

Acupuncture styles and techniques

Traditional acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of sterilized needles in specific points through out the body.

Electro acupuncture places a small electrode attached to the needle sending an electrical current through the needle to the target area. This technique is often applied to increase blood flow, reduce pain and increase organ function.

Moxabustion uses heat to stimulate acupuncture points. This heat is generated by burning the herb Mugwort directly over the needle or indirectly over the acupuncture point. It is widely used to enhance the immune sys tem and improve blood flow.

Laser acupuncture uses a low energy light beam to influence the flow of current to an acupuncture point. It is a non-invasive and aseptic procedure often applied to children and needle sensitive patients.

Cupping is the application of suction cups over the skin. It creates an negative pressure allowing the muscles to loosen and blood to flow. Often used to eliminate muscle pain and tension. Cupping has also been effectively applied to reduce respiratory congestion.

Acupuncture for seniors

1. Pain Management
Chronic pain is a common issue among the elderly, often due to arthritis, back pain, or other musculoskeletal conditions. Acupuncture has shown to reduce pain and increase mobility by stimulating the body's natural painkillers and promoting blood flow to affected areas. This can lead to improved daily comfort.

2. Improved Mobility and Flexibility
Joint stiffness and decreased mobility can hinder everyday activities. Regular acupuncture sessions can enhance joint flexibility and muscle function, making it easier for seniors to stay active and independent.

3. Boosted Immune System
As we age, our immune system naturally weakens, making us more susceptible to illnesses. Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and good nutrition help boost the immune system, leading to better overall health.

4. Enhanced Mental Health
Mental health issues such as anxiety and depression can significantly impact the elderly. Acupuncture promotes the release of endorphins and serotonin, chemicals in the brain that alleviate stress and improve mood. This can lead to improved mental clarity and emotional stability.

5. Improved Sleep Quality
Sleep disturbances are prevalent among seniors. Acupuncture can help regulate sleep patterns by addressing underlying issues such as anxiety or pain. Improved sleep leads to better energy levels and overall well-being.

What to Expect

Acupuncture is a safe and gentle treatment, tailored to each individual’s needs. During a session, thin needles are inserted into specific points on the body to stimulate healing. These needles are so fine that most people feel minimal to no discomfort. Therapeutic ultrasound is often provided when treating Musculo-skeletal problems. Sessions typically last between to 30- 60 minutes
